In the hottest recent development, Balaji Motion Pictures have decided
to move their most ambitious project 'Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Again'
ahead by a week. Now Akshay Kumar starrer will have a solo release date
on Independence Day. This means that the mega much awaited clash with
Chennai Express has been sensibly averted by once upon time in mumbai again makers. Last year
Diwali witnessed huge box office clash between Shahrukh Khan's 'Jab Tak
Hai Jaan' and Ajay Devgn's 'Son Of Sardaar'. Although both the movies
went on to become hits, they could have definitely collected much more
as solo releases. 'Chennai Express' is red hot in the trade and
reportedly UTV has done advance bookings at all the major single screens
of the country along with their previous release 'Himmatwala'.
In a way this is a good news for both the movies as they will now get a huge solo holiday release. Looking at the mind boggling collections of 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani', both these movies can definitely score a century in their respective first weeks. Rohit Shetty's 'Chennai Express' starring King Khan and Deepika Padukone will release on 8th August i.e. Thursday, which is National Eid holiday. Weekend business for this movie will be earth-shattering now to say the least. On the other hand, 'Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Again' will release on Independence Day i.e. 15th August. One should not forget that Salman Khan starrer 'Ek Tha Tiger' released on the same day last year and went on to collect a record 32 crore on the first day itself.
The most important factor which remains to be seen now is the screen count. 'once upon time in mumbai again' needs to get a huge release and for that Chennai Express will have to relinquish some of the screens. Lets wait and watch.
